Ludington is a Lake Michigan resort town and its charm can be found in the walking districts, beautiful beaches and awesome sunsets. AAA has named Ludington, for three years running, as a best place to vacation in Michigan. You can walk to a lighthouse, stroll the beach for miles, view historic homes, enjoy House of Flavors ice cream, and visit antique shops and neighborhood restaurants. These are just a few of the things you can do while you're visiting with us. However, we could keep you busy for days! Read on about some of the things that will help you have fun in the Ludington area.
Minutes from Ludington is the Lake Michigan village of Pentwater. This celebrated community sits on the shore of Lake Michigan. Its tree-lined streets show off charming Victorian homes and cottages and an irrestistible 'village green'. From the village green is a walkable collection of unique shops and galleries housed in historic buildings. Just south of Pentwater is Silver Lake, Michigan noted for 2,000 acres of rolling sand hills and thrilling dune rides. About 20 minutes north of Ludington, one can step back in time on Manistee's River Street. Manistee's downtown is a National and State Historic District of Victorian buildings along with the winding Manistee River that flows to Lake Michigan. Along River Street you can visit small shops and art galleries in restored buildings. A 1.5 mile long boardwalk runs along the Manistee River. Riverside restaurants and pubs have outdoor seating and offer views of river traffic and an occasional Great Lakes ship. Manistee is also home to the Little River Casino operated by the Ottawas. The Ottawa are one of three major tribal groups in Michigan and refer to themselves as "Anishinaabe" meaning original people in the language of the Ottawa. Ludington is the ideal "home base" for exploring areas both north and south along the shore of Lake Michigan; Petoskey, Charlevoix, Mackinac and Traverse City.
