Ludington Barns and Byways Tour October 9th
Perhaps not to the folks that work them, but to a city bred youngster like me, a barn was a magical place. On my uncle's farm, the barn was the place where we played hide-n-seek; the hay mow with the thick rope for lifting was the best swing a child could ask for...
Come join us on October 9th, 2010 for the Ludington Barns and Byways Tour. Graciously, 8 local families have opened their barns for touring. The eight barns are along Conrad Road and each participating barn will have a sign to designate it as a tour participant. Most of the barns were built in the 1800's and feature unique, early hand construction. Owners are on site and glad to share their barn stories and family histories.
The Ludington barns will be open on Saturday between 10am-4pm and all are within a short drive. For more information Visit Ludington or Ludington & Scottville Chamber of Commerce.
Besides the Barn Tour, the Mounted Division will be riding along Conrad Road, there will be new cultural events such as an antique tractor pull at the Manley Barn, Horse and Carriage rides at the Bretschneider Barn, horse and plow demonstrations across from the Nixon Barn, quilt displays, and BBQ cook off at the farm market in nearby Scottville.
This is also the weekend to visit the pumpkin patch at Major's Farm and to drive the byways admiring the fall colors and beauty of Big Sable Country.
Sunday, October 9th, take an extended driving tour featuring Mason County Centennial farms and beautiful fall colors. Maps will be available at Cherry Hill Farm located at 3529 W. Conrad Road, Ludington.
With your ticket you will receive a color magazine of the Barns & Byways tour with histories, pictorials, maps and listings of the times, events and barns on the tour for the weekend as well as the Fall Color Tour map.
