Delicious Foods ~ Romantic Dinner Destinations The West Shore of Michigan is a cornicopia of agricultural products that extends well beyond the region's well loved cherries. Apples, blueberries, asparagus, peaches, mushrooms, honey, maple syrup, wine grapes, and white fish are all harvested locally. Second only to California in agricultural diversity, this bountiful harvest creates an enviable basket of fresh ingredients for area chefs, restauranteurs, and wine makers.
Read along and we'll share with you our favorite area chefs, restaurants, foods and wines. Ludington RestaurantsLudington offers visitors dining choices ranging from a Lake Michigan fish house, where you pick your fish and have it cooked to carry-out to the beach or a restaurant offering casual dining as you listen to jazz and look out at the harbor.
Plaza Cafe ~ (year round) This very upbeat cafe owned by Chef Tom offers organic foods! Soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps...a wide assortment of healthy, delicious, no preservative choices. There's something to please everyone!! Open for lunch and dinner. Corner Cafe' (year round) ~ When neighborhoods had restaurants, they were like Corner Cafe. Open early for fisherman, offering breakfast and lunch. Swedish pancakes, strawberry stuffed french toast or burgers and fries. Closes at 2pm. Chef John's (seasonal) ~ This artsy cafe and bakery is a deli "find" with friendly service. First, try any of John's homemade soups, sandwiches on fresh baked breads or salads. We have never been disappointed. Afterwards, stop by the bakery case for John's double chocolate chip cookies. Old Hamlin (seasonal) ~ Home made bread, blueberry pancakes, french toast on thick cut home made bread, Greek specialties and old time family favorites. Opens early for fishermen.
Jamesport Brewing (year round) ~ This brew pub is in a historic building and close to the ferry S.S. Badger. Jamesport offers some carefully crafted, seasonal beers along with a fresh menu. This friendly pub is a great stop for a burger and ice cold beer. Luciano's (year round) ~ Chef Leo uses his Sicilian family recipes and makes everything from scratch. The wine menu is excellent and he always has a good, reasonably priced red (or white) by the glass. Right now, I am thinking about his linguine with red clam sauce and afterwards a little tiramisu. P.M. Steamer's (seasonal) ~ Chef Mike uses local ingredients throughout the season to put an eclectic spin on fish, steak and salads. That said, I don't think you'll find better fried perch anywhere. Overlooking the harbor, enjoy jazz and other good music every Friday thoughout the summer months.
House of Flavors (year round) ~ Families have returned here for generations to enjoy House of Flavors ice cream. We are no different. This ice cream house has big cones and original flavors with ingredients from the region.
